Did you know that August 1st is International Can-It-Forward Day? I didn’t until I received a press release, which read in part:
“On Saturday August 1st, Jarden Home Brands will host this year’s fifth annual Can-It-Forward Day, broadcast live online at FreshPreserving.com from 11AM – 4PM EST from the new state-of-the-art Jarden Home Brands headquarters in Fishers, Indiana. An event celebrating the joys of fresh preserving, Can-It-Forward Day encourages gardeners and food enthusiasts across the country to celebrate what “Made from Here” means to them by fresh preserving their favorite local ingredients in peak season.
The webcast will have an integrated chat function where viewers can submit their home canning questions to be answered in real time. New this year, there will also be an exciting celebrity mason jar auction unveiled during the webcast (you won’t want to miss it — from reality stars to celeb chefs!)”
I hope you will join me for this upcoming event, especially if you have never canned before. Last year I canned several jars of delicious marinara sauce, Roma tomatoes, dill and okra pickles, jalapeños, strawberry preserves and salsa, all for my family to enjoy in the cold winter months (https://kelleychisholm.com/2014/08/12/yes-you-can-preserve-now-and-enjoy-later/). Even if you don’t grow your own veggies and fruits, pick some up at a local farmer’s market or road-side stand. Canning is so easy and the rewards are certainly worth it!
Bon appétit!
Eat, drink and be merry!
